Newcastle United are said to be keen on a move for Burnley winger Dwight McNeil this summer.

The Sun report that Newcastle United are interested in signing £30m-rated winger Dwight McNeil during this summer’s transfer window.

The paper reckon that Burnley value the youngster highly after an impressive 2018/19 season but that the Magpies will look to drive down any fee paid to around £15m.

McNeil made 26 appearances for Sean Dyche last term, scoring three goals and assisting five more.

He also proved to be one of the most prolific crossers of the ball in the division with an average of 1.6 completed per game.

Just 19, he has significant potential and can add a bit of potency to Newcastle’s left flank as new boss Steve Bruce looks to embark on a bright new era at St James’ Park, despite fan concerns.

One way Bruce can win over the Magpies support is by fielding a young, exciting and ultimately winning team that can consistently pick up points in the Premier League.

McNeil ticks the boxes and if Newcastle can find a way to get the deal done on good terms then the teenager could be an impressive capture.

A look at Twitter shows some fans are very much in favour of seeing the youngster arrive.

Others aren’t convinced, feeling that a move for Jarrod Bowen of Hull City could be a more cost effective option.

Some meanwhile simply think there is no chance of the club spending any significant money this summer.

How it all plays out will be interesting.

It’s certainly a potential transfer to keep an eye on as we move ever closer to August’s deadline day.
