Dwight Gayle played a big role in Newcastle United’s morale-boosting win over the Red Devils.

Newcastle United secured arguably the most unlikely result of the weekend by beating Manchester United on Sunday.
Matt Ritchie’s second-half winner was enough to give Rafael Benitez’s side a 1-0 victory over the Red Devils and move two points clear of the relegation zone as a result.
The Magpies are far from safe but it was a massive three points for Newcastle and one that the likes of Martin Dubravka, Jonjo Shelvey and Mo Diame played a huge role in.

But Newcastle fans on Twitter are reserving praise for striker Dwight Gayle.
The former Crystal Palace hitman, a £10 million addition in 2016, was unlucky not to win a penalty in the first half after a foul by Chris Smalling, but then set up Ritchie’s winner with a wonderful, instinctive flick.

And fans of the St James’s Park club believe that the 29-year-old deserves a bit more credit.
In setting up Ritchie, Gayle has now had a hand in both of Newcastle’s goals against United this season, having scored in the 4-1 defeat at Old Trafford.
