The Newcastle United winger failed to impress in the weekend fixture.

Newcastle United had much to be proud of as they held potentially free-scoring Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at St. James’ Park this weekend.
The Magpies’ goal came courtesy of summer signing Joselu, who cancelled out Philippe Coutinho’s strike for the Reds, but not all Newcastle’s players left the field with their heads held high, with winger Christian Atsu coming in for criticism for his lack of impact in the key fixture.

Atsu made his loan move permanent earlier this year but the 25-year-old has only managed one goal and one assist in seven appearances to date.
That is not good enough for a winger who was signed to score and create, especially when his work rate has come in for scrutiny after the Liverpool clash.

Newcastle made some fine signings this summer, despite struggling for much of the transfer window. However Atsu needs to up his game, especially as he bids to prove his former club Chelsea were wrong to give up on him so soon.
