Newcastle produced a wonderful performance to beat champions Manchester City.

Newcastle United produced a marvellous display to beat Premier League champions Manchester City 2-1 at St. James’ Park on Tuesday night – but Toon fans have hammered winger Christian Atsu for his efforts.
Rafa Benitez’s men looked as though they were going to be in for a long night, after Sergio Aguero netted after just 24 seconds. Aguero has now scored 15 goals against The Toon – more than any player against one team.
But Newcastle rallied. An excellent rearguard defensive display, consisting of a five-man defence and a young central midfield pairing of Sean Longstaff and Isaac Hayden, Newcastle produced an incredible comeback.
Salomon Rondon equalised in the 66th minute, firing home Isaac Hayden’s header before Fernandinho dallied and Longstaff nicked the ball away from him before winning a penalty. Matt Ritchie converted to send St. James’ Park crazy.
But Ghana international Atsu failed to impress. The speed machine has been below par in terms of stats this season, failing to score or supply an assist during his 21 league and cup appearances.

The 27-year-old, who cost Newcastle £6.2million in the summer of 2017 (Mail) after an impressive loan during Newcastle’s promotion, has now failed to score since December 2017 during a 3-2 win over West Ham.
Newcastle fans took to Twitter to criticise the 59-time international, with many fed up of the winger being regularly picked by Benitez in Newcastle’s starting eleven.
