Newcastle United and Birmingham City went head-to-head this weekend.

Newcastle United kicked off their FA Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw away to Birmingham City on Saturday.

The Magpies scored early through summer signing Daryl Murphy but Birmingham hit back courtesy of Lukas Jutkiewicz goal and that was how the match remained.

Newcastle will now welcome the Blues to St James’ Park for a replay that neither side needed, but at least they have another shot at reaching round four.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez rang the changes, resting many of the players who have helped the side push for promotion in the Championship this season, and perhaps the most surprising selection was that of midfielder Cheik Tiote.

The 30-year-old Ivorian has only featured for 15 minutes in the league this season and it is widely expected that he will leave the club sooner rather than later.

Whatever happens during the current transfer window, he at least had the chance of a run out on Saturday.
