Newcastle United have been linked with Anthony Hudson.

Head coach Anthony Hudson of the Colorado Rapids walks onto the pitch against Minnesota United at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on June 23, 2018 in Commerce City, Colorado.

Newcastle United’s search for a new manager began on Monday afternoon after confirming that Rafael Benitez is leaving the club on Sunday.

The Magpies announced that, having attempted to find an agreement with Benitez, they simply couldn’t come to terms, and he will be leaving when his contract ends on June 30th.

Newcastle fans are raging at Mike Ashley and the Newcastle board for failing to keep Benitez, and the pressure is on the Magpies owner to find a replacement.

Some names are more exciting than others at this point, but arguably the most bizarre rumour surrounds American coach Anthony Hudson.

TEAMtalk claim that Newcastle’s Lee Charnley held talks with Hudson over Skype on Monday, seemingly eyeing him up as a potential Benitez replacement.

Hudson, 38, is a barely-known ex-Tottenham reserve coach, and he was recently sacked by MLS side Colorado Rapids after winning just eight games in 46 games.

Before that, he won nine games in 27 with New Zealand, and three in 12 with Bahrain, and whilst he’s a young coach with some potential, his record doesn’t lend itself towards the Newcastle job.

Newcastle fans have been taking to Twitter to react, with many asking who on earth Hudson is, claiming that going for him would be ‘laughable’ and ‘ridiculous’.

Supporters believe that Hudson would be a cheap yes man for Ashley, and for that reason – and because of his less-than-impressive record – he simply isn’t wanted at St James’ Park, with some fans with knowledge of MLS explaining just how bad of an appointment it would be, which does admittedly seem unlikely.
