Newcastle United claimed a 2-2 draw away at Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday.
Ayoze Perez has provided yet another example of why he frustrates Newcastle supporters so much as he put in an excellent display during their draw with Southampton on Sunday.
The Magpies reignited their decent run of form from before the international break by earning a point on the south coast, with goals from Isaac Hayden and Perez helping Rafa Benitez’s men earning a 2-2 draw at St Mary’s.
Newcastle remain ninth in the Premier League table, having lost just once in their previous six games in the top flight. And what will encourage Benitez is how disappointed the side would have been to come away with a point after Manolo Gabbiadini twice scored an equaliser.
There were a number of impressive displays from the Newcastle players. And while not every Magpie fan will agree, one of those encouraging performances came from Perez.
His perseverance after his initial shot was saved led to Newcastle’s second goal as he squeezed the ball in from an acute angle, and his running throughout the game meant that the Saints defence could rarely relax.
As mentioned, his inconsistency has meant that this kind of display often adds to the frustration surrounding the Spaniard as there seems every possibility that he could be off the boil when they face Crystal Palace next weekend.
