Newcastle United’s takeover is dragging on, but that isn’t stopping rumours surrounding players they could sign.

The Magpies would have hoped to have their takeover done by now. The £300million deal involving the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund, Amanda Staveley and the Reuben brothers was expected to be done by now.

Instead, fans are still waiting. Providing the deal goes ahead, Newcastle should be active in the transfer market, and a host of big-name players have been linked with the club.

Over the weekend, The Sun reported that Newcastle’s potential owners have targeted Wilfried Zaha for a move to St James’ Park. They’ve allegedly sounded out Zaha about the switch.

Crystal Palace would demand a huge £60million fee for Zaha. They’ve sold their homegrown star once before, and have stood firm recently – most notably last summer – to keep him at Selhurst Park this time.

The 27-year-old has been a Premier League star for many years, but has only notched three goals and five assists this term. He wanted to leave Palace last summer, and maybe now feels this is the right time.

Newcastle can’t offer European football right now, but may have an exciting project to offer. With money and ambition, maybe they could tempt Zaha into heading to Tyneside.

Some aren’t convinced that £60million offers great value for Zaha. There’s a belief that Newcastle could spent their money more wisely, such as going for a youngster like Dwight McNeil.

Others just don’t want Zaha at all, believing that he is ‘overrated’ and are praying that the rumours aren’t true.
