Gareth Southgate has announced his England squad for the upcoming international fixtures, and it does not include Newcastle United man Jonjo Shelvey.
The squad for England’s upcoming games against Scotland and Spain has been announced – with The BBC reporting the news, and as usual fans have reacted angrily to those included and those who have missed out.
Newcastle United fans are no different, and a portion of supporters are not too happy about the exclusion of their midfield maestro Jonjo Shelvey. The play-maker has been arguably the best player in the Championship this season, with his glorious passing displays helping Rafael Benitez’s side to the top of the division.

The 24-year-old has not played for England since he moved to the North East, having been capped six times so far in his career, making his Three Lions debut back in 2012 against San Marino.
While the Newcastle number 12 has been in sensational form this season, it was always highly unlikely that he would feature in the England setup due to plying his trade in the Championship rather than the Premier League. Andros Townsend left Newcastle in the summer for Crystal Palace to ensure he had the best chance of being a part of the national team, and he has been selected for the upcoming fixtures.

Shelvey remained loyal to Newcastle, putting the club before his own personal gain, and he has been integral to Newcastle dominance of the early stages of the season.
Regardless of what division Shelvey is playing in, some Newcastle fans think their man should have been selected by Gareth Southgate, and have let their feelings be known on Twitter.
