Newcastle United picked up a fantastic win in the Premier League on Saturday.
A number of Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to laud Sean Longstaff’s performance after the midfielder helped the Magpies pick up a fantastic win against Cardiff City on Saturday.
Rafa Benitez’s side moved themselves out of the relegation zone as a brace from Fabian Schar and a goal from Ayoze Perez led to a 3-0 win against the Bluebirds at St James’ Park.
The game, remarkably, marked only the second start of Longstaff’s top flight career. But he is already showing signs that suggest that he will be able to thrive at the highest level as he was composed on the ball and was clearly more than aware of what he needed to do when he did not have it.
Unsurprisingly, the fans on social media could not praise the youngster high enough after the full-time whistle, with one very flattering comparison being made.
Some believe that Longstaff, on current form, should get into Benitez’s lineup even when he has all of his options available.
In fact, plenty of supporters have suggested that they saw a lot of similarities between Longstaff’s style of play and that of Michael Carrick. The boyhood Newcastle fan went on to become one of the finest midfielders of the Premier League era. And while many of the comparisons are referring to Longstaff’s style rather than his current quality, it is incredibly high praise at this stage of his career.
