Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Liverpool striker Danny Ings.

The Sun reported this weekend that Magpies boss Rafael Benitez would be interested in bringing the 24-year-old to St James’s Park this summer, or La Liga hitman Cedric Bakambu.

It goes on to state that Newcastle would preferably want the former Burnley star on loan following an injury-ravaged couple of seasons with Liverpool.

And fans of the North-East club seem conflicted about the reports on Twitter.

Ings is a fine striker but the fact of the matter is that he has only managed six Premier League appearances in two years due to back-to-back cruciate ligament injuries.

Newcastle would be better off exploring other avenues and perhaps renewing their interest in Ings in January if and when he gets a solid run of games under his belt.

Plus, the England international earns in the region of £60,000 a week, via The Star. That is a lot of money for the recently-promoted Premier League side to pay for a striker with Ings’s injury record.

Benitez will definitely need another striker. Dwight Gayle was brilliant in helping Newcastle into the Premier League last season, netting over 20 goals, but his capacity to score goals in the top tier is doubtful.
