Newcastle supporters on Twitter are not surprised that the club’s reported deal for Lazio defender Jordan Lukaku has fallen through on medical grounds.

Sky Sports claim that the 24-year-old’s proposed loan move to the Premier League side collapsed despite the player undergoing a medical on Friday.

It is said in the report that the deal for the Belgium international collapsed on medical grounds and was not related to finances.

The Toon Army supporters on Twitter found the reported twist in the Lukaku deal as ‘laughable’, while one did ‘understand’ why it didn’t go through but was ‘frustrated’ with the club for allowing it to happen.

During his career, Left-back Lukaku has played in Italy’s Serie A and Belgium’s Pro League, winning the title in his homeland on three occasions, according to transfermarkt.

Newcastle have yet to sign a player this month and the club’s supporters will be hoping some fresh faces do come through the door before the deadline shuts.

Here is a selection of Newcastle fans on Twitter reacting to the Lukaku news:

Rafa Benitez’s side were knocked out of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon [BBC Sport] when fellow Premier League side Watford strolled to a comfortable victory at St James’ Park.

Despite beating fellow strugglers Cardiff City in the league last time out, the Magpies are still in danger of getting relegated as they are one place and two points outside of the relegation zone.

Following that defeat against the Hornets in the FA Cup, Benitez will now be preparing his team for a tricky home tie against champions Manchester City on Tuesday night.

A defeat for the home team could potentially see Newcastle fall into the relegation zone, with Cardiff playing Arsenal in the same evening.
