At one stage it appeared the midfielder would be heading to Everton, but with Spurs trumping any thoughts Ronald Koeman’s side had of that elusive signature, Newcastle finally entered the period where they could say their farewells to Sissoko.

But with Everton appearing to be front runners at such a late stage on deadline day, they wouldn’t have expected Maurcio Pochettino’s side to have won the race for Sissoko.

Newcastle’s transfer window has been about offloading as they prepared for life in the Championship and seeing Sissoko leave was the final piece in the jigsaw as the midfielder had expressed no interest in remaining at St James’ Park.
Many Newcastle fans will be pleased to see Sissoko leave having made it clear his future lies away from the club and while Everton will be left feeling they have lost out on his signature, the supporters at St James’ Park have made it clear the business by Rafa Benitez’s side is a stroke of genius.
