Mo Diame is reportedly in line to bag a new contract at Newcastle United, and the Toon Army appear to be fairly divided on the news.

The reports from the Chronicle this week which have suggested that Mo Diame is in line to earn a new contract at Newcastle certainly appear to have divided supporters on Twitter.

Diame is currently set to see his deal at St James’ Park expire at the end of the season. But the Chronicle reports that he is on track to be rewarded with an extension later on in the campaign once he plays a certain number of games.

The 31-year-old has featured regularly for Rafa Benitez’s side this term. No outfield player has spent more time on the pitch for the Magpies in the Premier League this season, with Diame starting all 11 of their fixtures so far.

Unfortunately, the former Hull City man has struggled to make a major impact on the side. He is not the only player who should probably be a little disappointed with his form by any means, but it has left several Newcastle fans feeling extremely unhappy about the latest news.

They do not believe that Diame is good enough to remain a key player under Benitez – should they stay in the top flight – so a new deal is potential backward step.

However, there are also plenty of Newcastle fans who have no problem with Diame earning fresh terms. He was really excellent during the second-half of last term and many feel that, in an ideal world, he would be used as a very good squad player.
