Newcastle supporters were less than convinced about Rangers new boy Jak Alnwick.

Rangers yesterday sealed the signing of goalkeeper Jak Alnwick from Port Vale.

Alnwick, 23, is a former England youth international who has experience of playing in the Premier League with Newcastle United.

Alnwick had a run of games for the Toon in 2014/15 during an injury crisis, but despite an encouraging debut, he did not do enough to earn a run in the team, and he left after his contract expired.

After failing to win a deal after a trial at Leeds United, he ended up signing with Port Vale, where he has made more than 70 appearances.

Speaking to the club and quoted by Herald Scotland, Alnwick insisted his spell at Newcastle will help him get used to the intensity of the demands at being at a club like Rangers.

Alnwick’s positive attitude or even his bravery has never been in question, but his ability as a shot stopper saw him come in for criticism at the Toon.
