Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Isaac Hayden’s performance during the Magpies’ excellent 2-0 win against Burnley at St James’ Park on Tuesday night.

Rafa Benitez’s side have eased their relegation concerns with another victory, as a stunning strike from Fabian Schar and a goal from Sean Longstaff set the home side on their way to the win.

Longstaff has understandably taken many of the plaudits following his first league goal for Newcastle and another superb performance. But it was the man alongside him in the middle of the park that many of the Toon Army wanted to laud after the win against the Clarets.

Hayden has endured a difficult time on Tyneside. It has been no secret that he has been keen to leave the club due to family reasons (via Chronicle), so it seemed to be a risk for Benitez to hand him such a prominent role alongside Longstaff earlier in the campaign.

But that risk has paid off remarkably. The former Hull City man is playing some of the best football of his career right now and is thriving now that Newcastle have so much attacking quality in front of him.

He won so many challenges and duels against a physical Burnley side, and that allows the likes of Miguel Almiron and Ayoze Perez to concentrate on making an impact further up the field.

And Hayden’s performance has prompted a number of Newcastle fans to laud the 23-year-old on social media. One fan has even apologised for his previous criticism of the midfielder, and a number are now hoping that there is some way that he could be tempted into staying at the club.

Here is the best of the reaction…
