Ciaran Clark withdrew from international duty and has returned to Newcastle United due to an injury.

A number of Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the reports emerging from the Chronicle which have suggested that Ciaran Clark is a doubt for this weekend’s clash with Brighton due to a thigh problem.
Clark has been away with the Republic of Ireland national team, but has returned to St James’ Park early after sustaining the injury in training. The Chronicle reports that the problem is not thought to be a serious one, but he is still facing a race against time to be ready for the Magpies’ next game.
Clark – who joined for £5.1 million, according to BBC Sport – has not been a regular starter for Rafa Benitez’s side this term, but he has made seven appearances for Newcastle in all competitions.
It is perhaps not the biggest blow that the Magpies could receive ahead of the crucial game. The Chronicle reports that Jamaal Lascelles and Federico Fernandez were always likely to start at the heart of the defence.

And that is perhaps why news of Clark’s injury has not been met with a particularly negative reaction. There have been some fans who feel that it is a setback, but a couple of supporters feel that it could present an opportunity to Fabian Schar.
Schar has impressed some of the Toon Army since arriving in the summer, and it appears that a couple of fans are hoping that he may be given the chance to step up if Clark does not make the matchday squad.

Here is the best of the reaction to the news on Clark…
