Newcastle fans have been taking to Twitter to comment on the reports coming out of The Sun over the weekend which suggested that the Magpies were keen on signing Andre Schurrle on loan.

The German has struggled for minutes this season and The Sun suggests that Borussia Dortmund could be willing to let him leave the Westfalenstadion on a temporary basis – and Newcastle are one of the teams interested in handing the former Chelsea man a return to the Premier League.

It has been a hugely frustrating month for Magpies supporters as Rafa Benitez still awaits the chance to make his first signing of the January transfer window less than 10 days before the deadline.

Takeover talk has dominated the narrative at St James’ Park, and it appears that the Magpies are not that much closer to having new owners right now anyway, so the Toon will be urging Mike Ashley to give Benitez the green light to get some players in.

But while there are plenty of fans urging Newcastle to make it happen, there are also some who are less than optimistic that the club will manage to sign the winger due to the years of frustration and disappointment in the transfer market.
