Newcastle United defeated Hull City 3-0 on Saturday but what did fans make of Sammy Ameobi’s performance?
Newcastle United fans had plenty to cheer about this weekend as their side defeated Hull City 3-0 at the KC Stadium.
In his first game since being confirmed as the Magpies new head coach, John Carver watched as his side kept their first clean-sheet in 11 matches, with summer signing Remy Cabella pulling the strings and youngster Sammy Ameobi scoring a beauty.
The 22-year-old winger let fly from long range to show Cabella he was not the only one capable of netting such goals , the wide-man scoring only his second senior goal of the season and only his fourth in Newcastle colours.
As you can see from the statistics below, Ameobi had a passing accuracy of just 66 per cent, which is something both Carver and the player himself will want to work on in the months ahead, but his 100 per cent shooting accuracy was a considerably more impressive stat, as were his four dribbles and his one key pass.
| Passing Accuracy | Goals | Shots | Shots on Target | Key Passes | Goal Assists | Dribbles | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sammy Ameobi | 66% | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 4 | 89 |
In time Ameobi could go on to become a very important part of this Newcastle side – some would argue that he already is – but whatever the future holds, the player had a match to remember and helped secure Newcastle’s place just outside the top 10 with plenty of football still to be played.
After the match, we took to Twitter to see what Newcastle fans thought of Ameobi’s performance and you can read a selection of what we found below (including a message from someone Magpies fans know very well):
