Newcastle United supporters have taken great delight in seeing Lansbury endure a miserable night for Aston Villa.

Newcastle United fans have been reacting on Twitter to the torrid night endured by Henri Lansbury during the Magpies’ win over Aston Villa, and it is safe to say that there has not been a lot of sympathy for the Villans’ January signing.
Lansbury has not exactly captured the imagination since arriving at Villa Park, and his miserable time with the Midlands club was encapsulated in one comical moment during Monday’s Championship clash between the two sides.
The midfielder was guarding the front post when a corner came in and a fairly soft header came towards him. Bizarrely, Lansbury seemed to react late and could not seem to work out which foot to kick the ball with, and ultimately ended up getting too light a touch on the ball which resulted in the ball finding the net.
While the 2-0 win provided Magpies supporters with a talking point as it saw them head back to the top of the table after losing their place at the summit following Brighton’s win at the weekend, Lansbury’s howler did not escape their attention by any means.
The former Nottingham Forest man made himself incredibly unpopular with Newcastle fans when Rafa Benitez’s men travelled to the City Ground earlier in the season.
The Magpies finished the game with nine men following red cards to Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett, both of whom tangled with Lansbury in the incidents that led to their dismissals.

While Dummett’s attempted challenge was definitely clumsy, it could be argued that the midfielder was already heading to the ground before any contact came in.
And that occurred only after an off the ball incident which led to Shelvey seeing red. After Lansbury had arguably committed a foul on the Newcastle man, Shelvey retaliated by kicking out.
However, replays showed that Shelvey had been unlucky to be dismissed as the contact was minimal, certainly not enough to make Lansbury react in the manner he did.
Unsurprisingly therefore, Newcastle fans have not forgotten what the 26-year-old did on that night, and have thus, taken great joy in celebrating his misfortune on Monday…
