Newcastle United have snapped up Anderlecht defender Chancel Mbemba.
As seen above, Newcastle United have confirmed their third signing of the summer, with Anderlecht defender Chancel Mbemba arriving from Anderlecht.
Having snapped up PSV Eindhoven’s Georginio Wijnaldum and Anderlecht’s Aleksandar Mitrovic, the Magpies have returned to the Belgian giants for Mbemba.
The 20-year-old defender, who is an international defender for DR Congo, has agreed a five-year deal with Newcastle having been granted a work permit.
After disappointing displays from veterans Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson last season, Newcastle needed an injection of youth, pace and athleticism in their back line – and new manager Steve McClaren has landed that with Mbemba.
The youngster will be expected to help solidify a Newcastle defence which was leaky last term, and his arrival has been met with approval by Magpies fans.
Supporters took to Twitter after the club announced Mbemba’s arrival, and most fans are delighted to have captured the defender – though urged the club to continue their recruitment drive with at least one more centre back.
Here are some of the reactions from Newcastle fans are completing a deal for Mbemba earlier this evening…
