Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez is being linked with a surprise move back to Spain.

Rafael Benitez Manager

Newcastle fans have been reacting on Twitter to the recent reports that emerged from the Daily Mirror which suggested that Rafa Benitez is a potential target for La Liga side Real Sociedad.

Benitez has done a brilliant job at St James’ Park, having led the side back to the Premier League at the earliest opportunity following their relegation, while he also looks set to ensure that they remain in the top flight for next season.

The Mirror reports however, that he is now attracting attention from elsewhere, with Real Sociedad keen to offer the 57-year-old the chance to return to Spain as they look to elevate themselves away from the doldrums in La Liga.

The Mirror does not suggest that Benitez would be interested in the job, but do insist that he plans to use the interest as leverage when it comes to discussing a potential summer transfer budget with Magpies owner Mike Ashley.

It appears that Benitez’s first choice option – by quite some distance perhaps – is to stay at St James’ Park for as long as he feels that he can take the club forward. And the fans are imploring Ashley to make sure that the manager feels as though he can continue to take them up the table.

The majority of the supporters do not appear to be too worried regarding Benitez’s future, though a couple appear to believe that this could be a warning for further down the line that clubs are starting to target the Spaniard.
