Mbabu was sold by Newcastle for a nominal fee last summer.

Kevin Mbabu has proved Newcastle United that they were wrong to sell him without offering the defender a proper chance in the first team, after qualifying for the Champions League with Swiss side Young Boys – and Newcastle fans are fuming.
Newcastle were seemingly willing to offload the 23-year-old last summer to Young Boys, after Mbabu managed just five appearances in the club’s first team – all of which came way back in the 2015-16 season.
Mbabu was loaned to Young Boys for the 2016-17 season, and the Toon should have picked up on his form in the Swiss Super League as he played 27 times and impressed in yellow and black.
However, they failed to do so, and he was sold to Young Boys permanently where he became crucial last season to their league title push. Making 44 appearances, Mbabu scored twice and created eight from right-back.
Young Boys won the Swiss Super League title, with Mbabu missing just four matches. Sky Sports even claimed that Fulham and FC Basel wanted to sign Mbabu, who is now rated at a huge £10million.

Entering the Champions League qualification round at the play-off stage, Young Boys were tasked with beating Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb over two legs – and a 3-2 win on aggregate sees Mbabu’s side qualify for the group stage.
Some Newcastle fans reacted to the news that Mbabu will face Europe’s best throughout 2018-19, blasting their club for offloading him on the cheap or indeed deciding against keeping him.
