Newcastle United have missed out on a deal for Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen.
Newcastle United’s January transfer window has been largely frustrating, and it took another exasperating turn on Monday evening.
The Magpies went into the transfer window knowing they needed major additions, but have so far only managed to bring in Chelsea talent Kenedy on loan until the end of the season.
Manager Rafael Benitez was desperate for a new striker, given that his side have been struggling for goals and lie just one point clear of the relegation zone, but one pursuit has fallen short.
Newcastle have been chasing a deal for Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen over the last week, and fans were hopeful of seeing the Danish international arrive at St. James’ Park.
However, Algemeen Dagblad reported on Monday evening that Newcastle had missed Feyenoord’s deadline for agreeing a deal, falling short with their £15million bid as Feyenoord chased a deal worth over £20million.
Jorgensen, 27, hit 21 goals in 32 games last season to help Feyenoord win the Eredivisie titles, and has notched nine goals in 19 outings this term to continue impressing in Rotterdam.
The former Copenhagen ace will now stay at Feyenoord after Newcastle missed out on one of Benitez’s top targets, and fans are far from impressed with the news.
Magpies fans took to Twitter to slam owner Mike Ashley and managing director Lee Charnley for allowing the deal to collapse, suggesting that the prospect of ending the transfer window without a striker is now ‘really worrying’, slamming the club as a ‘shambles’ after failing to secure Jorgensen’s signature.
