Newcastle United have reportedly requested information from Sassuolo for striker Gianluca Scamacca. The Toon face competition from Tottenham and Arsenal for the Italy ace – and Newcastle fans have responded on Twitter.

Scamacca, 23, has been in excellent form for Sassuolo this season – scoring nine goals in 21 appearances for the 12th-placed Serie A side. It his first proper crack at Sassuolo, having spent the previous four seasons on loan.

FC Inter News claim that Arsenal are interested in signing Scamacca, while Newcastle have asked for information regarding the Italy international. The report claims that Sassuolo want a fee of £33million for their striker.

It comes after Gazzetta said Antonio Conte wants the Sassuolo goal getter as cover for Harry Kane. Newcastle remain in the hunt for another striker despite the £25million addition of Chris Wood from rivals Burnley.

Newcastle have also been linked with Atalanta and Colombia striker Duvan Zapata in recent days, while Reims striker Hugo Ekitike has been heavily touted as a possible signing. Scamacca is the latest centre-forward linked.

What are Newcastle fans saying about rivalling clubs for Scamacca?

Newcastle’s priority has got to be a centre-back – or even two. Talks for Sevilla’s Diego Carlos and Monaco youngster Benoit Badiashile are widely reported as ongoing. A midfielder is also expected to be a priority.

Do they need another striker with Wood signed and Callum Wilson expected to return from injury in March? That is up for debate. But some Newcastle fans think signing Scamacca would be a good signing.
