Newcastle United have already been linked with a whole host of names ahead of the summer transfer window, the latest being Sassuolo defender Gian Marco Ferrari – and Toon fans are desperate to see a deal done.

Italian publication CalcioMercato claim Newcastle are interested in the 26-year-old, who has enjoyed an excellent season-long loan spell with Sampdoria. But a return to parent club Sassuolo looks unlikely.

Indeed, the report claims that Sampdoria have a clause in the loan deal that can see them purchase the defender for £11.5million. However, Sampdoria could jeopardise such a move, because they want to pay less than the agreed fee.

Gian Marco Ferrari (L) and Roberto Gagliardini of Italy depart to London on March 26, 2018 in London, England.

A breakdown in talks could see Newcastle swoop in for Ferrari, whose excellent displays this season even saw him gain an Italy call-up for the friendlies against Argentina and England in March. He failed to make an appearance.

Newcastle do face competition from England in Ferrari, with newly-promoted Premier League outfit Fulham looking to land the impressive defender.

But Newcastle fans have reacted to the news that Rafa Benitez is interested in Ferrari, by urging the club to sign him. One fan believes that if Ferrari signs, Ciaran “Clark’s days are numbered”.
