Newcastle United are reportedly interested in luring Kasimpasa striker Mbaye Diagne to St. James’ Park this month – and fans have reacted excitedly on Twitter.

According to a report from TuttoMercatoWeb, Newcastle and West Ham have joined the race to sign 27-year-old Diagne who has been in excellent form for the Turkish SuperLig side – scoring 20 goals in 17 league games.

The unbelievable scoring rate is highlighted by the SuperLig goalscoring rankings. Evidently, Diagne sits at the top of those rankings – but second place is Hugo Rodallega who has half of Diagne’s tally with nine. Robinho is third with eight.

Newcastle have options up front in the form of Salomon Rondon and Joselu, but the club could look to add a forward who was at the top of his game with the club desperately in need of points.

Following Wednesday night’s loss to Manchester United, Newcastle are just two points above the bottom three and manager Rafa Benitez has already described avoiding relegation as a “miracle” this season.

But if owner Mike Ashley is willing to part with some funds to keep Newcastle in the Premier League, then Diagne may be the man Newcastle turn to to fire them towards safety.

Newcastle fans reacted on Twitter after hearing news of the link with Senegal international Diagne, and their is an air of excitement amongst some supporters over a potential transfer in the coming weeks.
