Newcastle United have signed up two young players with potential.

Newcastle United announced youngsters Kyle Scott and Jake Turner as their latest summer transfer windows signings on Monday.

Scott, 21, is a midfielder who has spent his entire career at Chelsea save for a brief loan spell at Dutch second-tier side Telstar last season.

He made his senior debut for the Blues last year in a 4-0 FA Cup fifth round win over Hull City.

Released this summer, he’ll be hoping he can impress for the club’s U23s side before potentially making a first-team impact.

Turner meanwhile is a 20-year-old goalkeeper arriving from Bolton Wanderers who has represented England at U18 and U19 youth levels and has had loan spells at Stalybridge Celtic and Darlington.

Like Scott, he appears to be a signing that can bolster the Magpies’ U23s ranks, hoping to find a pathway to playing for the first-team in the future.

Some fans craving the big signings this summer that can help their Premier League chances may scoff at the announcement. However, adding youth to a wider squad can often be as important as getting the more notable deals done.

The two strands of recruitment should go hand in hand.

In the long-term if Newcastle are to be a sustainable and credible outfit they’ll need to bring more young players through from their academy and U23 sides.
