Newcastle United defender Chancel Mbemba is expected to leave St. James’ Park and two Belgian sides are now reportedly interested in landing the powerful star. But Toon fans have questioned why he has been ostracised at the club.

Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad claim Standard Liege and Mbemba’s former side Anderlecht want to sign the DR Congo international this summer, who has been placed on the transfer list by Rafa Benitez.

Mbemba has failed to make a Premier League appearance for the Toon in 2018, last featuring in the 3-0 loss to Chelsea in the FA Cup back in January.

He has fallen down the pecking order under Benitez, with the Spanish manager preferring the likes of Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark and Florian Lejeune at the heart of his defence.

It remains to be seen what kind of transfer fee the Toon could secure for Mbemba’s services, though it is their move with two years remaining on the five-year deal he signed when first joining Newcastle in 2015.

Though a move seems inevitable, Newcastle fans have reacted on Twitter by questioning why the 23-year-old powerhouse has not been given a chance to prove himself on a regular basis.

However, some fans are keen to see the back of Mbemba, with one fan claiming he would take “I’d take a decent 7 iron and a putter for him.”
