Aleksandar Mitrovic showed Newcastle United just what they were missing with an exquisite brace for Serbia, but could not help his country overcome Romania as the two sides drew 2-2 – and some Newcastle fans want him back.

The 23-year-old has been in excellent form for newly-promoted Fulham this season, after earning a move from Newcastle believed to be worth in the region of £27million (Sky Sports).

He has hit the ground running after helping Slavisa Jokanovic’s side get promoted last season while on loan, by scoring four Premier League goals in the same amount of appearances.

He continued his fine form on the international stage, bundling home Serbia’s first before scoring an incredible second that saw him chip the ball up before firing a volley past goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu.

The second was a moment of pure magic that will have left Fulham fans confident that they boast one of the best up-and-coming strikers in European football.

However, some Newcastle fans reacted in an angry fashion, asking why the club decided to sell the former Anderlecht striker or fail to give him a chance. Others sarcastically asked if Newcastle should sign him in January.
