Two smart finishes continued the forward’s hot streak in front of goal as he all but secured his place leading the line for his country at this summer’s World Cup.
Mitrovic struggled for game time at Newcastle United earlier this season, but a loan spell at Fulham has so far brought seven goals, the front man scoring in five consecutive games across February and March.
With that total surpassing that of Newcastle top-scorer Dwight Gayle (five), Magpies fans continue to be a little frustrated that Rafa Benitez did not give him more time in the first team at St James’ Park.
This form is hardly a surprise either, given he consistently scored for Serbia during World Cup qualifying.

Mitrovic now has nine goals in 13 games for Serbia across the last two seasons and he may well be Newcastle’s only representative at the World Cup.
Many Magpies fans would hope that he can continue his fine form for the rest of the campaign and return to Tyneside ready to make an impact in the Premier League, but it may well be that his performances simply increase his price tag for potential suitors.
Either way, manager Benitez is likely to be delighted that Mitrovic is doing well – despite their previous differences.
