Achraf Lazaar is proving to be an impressive performer for Newcastle United’s under-23 side this season.
A number of Newcastle fans have suggested on Twitter that Achraf Lazaar should get another chance in the Magpies’ first-team as his impressive form for the under-23s continued on Monday night.
Lazaar’s last appearance for the senior side came back in August 2017, and it would be a big surprise if Rafa Benitez handed him another opportunity, especially with the Magpies battling to keep themselves in the Premier League.
But some supporters feel that he deserves a chance in the FA Cup at least after he bagged another assist – his third in four games – during the 4-2 win against West Brom this week.
It was his superb cross that allowed Rosaire Longelo to make the score 3-1, and that has left a handful of Newcastle fans suggesting that Benitez should look at him for the FA Cup replay with Blackburn Rovers.
Of course, there is a sense of resignation behind their pleas. After several frustrating transfer windows and with this current month looking destined to be a quiet one, some fans feel that Benitez should gamble on giving Lazaar a chance on the left.
If they are not going to make any new signings, Newcastle may as well take a chance on the 26-year-old just in case he could make some sort of impact during the remaining months of the season. It perhaps says a lot about how desperate the situation feels for many supporters that Lazaar’s under-23 form has left some asking for Moroccan to get a game.
