Papiss Cisse is reportedly keen on a return to Newcastle United.

Newcastle United are struggling for goals this season, and it seems that one of their former strikers is keen on a move back to Tyneside.

Joelinton was Newcastle’s big-money signing in the summer having chosen not to sign Salomon Rondon permanently, but he hasn’t even managed a shot on target in the last two months.

The Brazilian is being starved of service, and it’s hard to see Dwight Gayle or Yoshinori Muto making much of an impact, whilst Andy Carroll is, predictably, injured.

Re-signing Carroll was something of a gamble, but bringing back Papiss Cisse would be even more of a punt, with TEAMtalk claiming he wants to re-join the club in January.

The 34-year-old spent four-and-a-half years with Newcastle having signed from Freiburg in January 2012, and whilst he started well, he became a little frustrating by the end.

Newcastle allowed him to go in 2016, offloading him to Chinese side Shandong Luneng, but he’s now in Turkey with Alanyaspor, where he is the Super Lig’s top goalscorer this season with nine goals in nine games.

Cisse is out of contract next summer and wants to return to England for just £3million, with newcastle being offered the chance to bring the Senegalese hitman back to St James’ Park.

It remains to be seen what Steve Bruce thinks about this proposal, but what about Newcastle fans? Well, some of them actually would take Cisse back, believing that he could still score goals in the Premier League and would be more dangerous than Joelinton, whilst a pay-as-you-play deal like Carroll would be ideal.

Others aren’t quite so convinced, feeling that Cisse is past it, suggesting they couldn’t handle seeing him be flagged offside repeatedly as he was in his first spell with the club, whilst urging the club to splash out for Hull City attacker Jarrod Bowen instead.
