Newcastle United need a host of signings before next Thursday’s transfer deadline, and Steve Bruce continues to be linked with new recruits.

The Magpies have only brought in Joelinton as a first-team addition this summer, and without more signings, Newcastle may be in trouble this season.

A left back, winger and another striker are needed, but Newcastle are strangely being linked with another centre back ahead of the deadline.

The Daily Mail report that Newcastle are keen to land Manchester United talent Axel Tuanzebe, but that would rely on the Red Devils signing Harry Maguire first.

The 21-year-old was signed by Steve Bruce twice at Aston Villa, and it’s thought that he would be keen on a reunion, which would surely be a loan move.

Tuanzebe needs first-team football, and if United sign Maguire, that would be increasingly unlikely, making a loan move entirely possible.

Whilst Bruce did play Tuanzebe at right back during his time at Villa, Newcastle fans don’t appear impressed with the idea of a centre back coming in, given that Bruce already has Jamaal Lascelles, Florian Lejeune, Fabian Schar, Federico Fernandez and Ciaran Clark.

Fans feel like targeting another centre back would be a waste of time, as Newcastle are already strong in that area, and whilst they acknowledge that Tuanzebe is a quality young player, there’s simply no need for him at St James’ Park – even with Bruce’s prior relationship.
