A brace from Salomon Rondon set Newcastle on their way to the three points. And while Rondon was understandably lauded by the Magpies fans, it appears that Fernandez may have received more praise from the supporters.
The summer signing was a colossus at the heart of Newcastle’s defence, making a number of full-blooded challenges and interceptions that ensured that the home side did not squander their lead.
The Chronicle reports that he cost £6 million in the summer, and many fans are not sure that the club have pulled off a better deal in recent years.
Some have admitted that he has been a significantly better signing than they could have imagined, while it has also been suggested that he already has to be considered one of the club’s best defenders in a very long time.
