Sky Sports have reported that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has been approached by a Chinese consortium about a potential takeover.
After the Magpies were promoted from the Championship in 2016/17, Ashley is said to have received several offers of investment in the club.
General view outside St James’ Park
The current Newcastle owner has not always been a popular figure at St James’ Park since his own takeover back in 2007.
Ashley has previously tried to sell the club on two separate occasions, while he received criticism in 2011 after changing the ground’s name to the Sports Direct Arena – named after his own company.

He has also been a consistent presence at the club for 10 years and in general the fans have been happy with the running of things over the past 12 months.
It is perhaps therefore unsurprising that supporters have greeted the news of a potential sale with distinctly mixed reactions.
