Newcastle United beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Newcastle United picked up a vital win on Saturday afternoon by comfortably beating Huddersfield Town 2-0 at St James’ Park.
The Magpies went into the game after a near two week break, and were in top form against a beleaguered Huddersfield side, who prop up the Premier League table.
Tommy Smith was given a straight red card for the Terriers for a nasty foul on debutant Miguel Almiron, with Newcastle firing shot after shot at the Huddersfield goal in the first half.
The breakthrough came early into the second half as Salomon Rondon put Newcastle ahead, before his flick on found Ayoze Perez to make it 2-0 just minutes later.
Newcastle could have made it even worse for Huddersfield as Kenedy and Sean Longstaff both rattled the woodwork, but it finished 2-0 to Rafael Benitez’s side in a strong display.
Almiron stole the headlines with his showing, but it’s worth noting that he conjured up some fine link-up play with goalscorer Perez behind centre forward Rondon.

Perez has been heavily slammed by fans for some time now, but he turned in a fine display on Saturday, celebrating his goal with his fingers in his ears as usual as he ignored the critics.
Some supporters took to Twitter to hail Perez’s performance, urging him to continue proving his doubters wrong whilst feeling he was back to his best in an ‘excellent’ and ‘brilliant’ display from the Spaniard.
