Newcastle United came crashing back down to earth after a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion today.

The Magpies were impressive in a 2-0 win at West Ham United last weekend, but were up against it early on against Brighton.

Tariq Lamptey bagged an early penalty, which Neal Maupay converted, before the Frenchman added a second from close range.

Newcastle tried to get back into the game, but couldn’t do so as Aaron Connolly curled home a third to seal the win.

Newcastle didn’t manage a single shot on target in a pretty woeful display, but fans did see one positive.

Playmaker Miguel Almiron again had to make do with a place on the bench, but came on at half time for Andy Carroll and make an impact after the break.

The Paraguayan created three chances in his 45 minutes on the pitch, and will be hoping that he actually starts in the league next time out.

Fans have taken to Twitter to hail Almiron, claiming he was Newcastle’s best player and the only one who turned up.

Some want him to start against Tottenham next week, and feel that he was carrying the Newcastle side in the second half.
