Newcastle fans excited as Benitez reportedly meets release clause

Rafa Benitez is desperate to bring new players to Newcastle this summer.

Newcastle United have reportedly activated Besiktas captain Oguzhan Ozyakup’s release clause in a bid to lure the former Arsenal maestro to St. James’ Park – and Toon fan have reacted with excitement.

Turkish outlet Aksam claim the 25-year-old is keen on a move to the Premier League and that Rafa Benitez is desperate to get a deal done for the Turkey international as soon as possible.

It is believed that the fee to land Turkey international Ozyakup stands at £8.8million, which Newcastle are believed to have offered Besiktas. The release clause inserted into his contract means Besiktas are unable to reject such an offer.

Ozyakup has long been linked with a move to English football, after an excellent 2016-17 campaign that saw him score five goals and set up 10 more from holding midfield as Besiktas won the SuperLig.

Ozyakup then skippered Besiktas into the knockout stages of the Champions League last season, but failed to prove as successful domestically with the Turkish giants finishing way down in fourth.

Newcastle fans have reacted on Twitter to the news that their club could be about to make their second signing of the summer after a permanent deal for Martin Dubravka. One supporter describes Ozyakup as a “must buy”.
