Would former Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, now at Liverpool, be a good signing for Newcastle United in the summer transfer window?

Simon Mignolet of Liverpool celebrates victory after the Premier League match between Burnley and Liverpool at Turf Moor on January 1, 2018 in Burnley, England.

Simon Mignolet may have done well when he was at Sunderland, but the 30-year-old goalkeeper has made a lot of mistakes during his time at Liverpool and has lost his place in the starting lineup.

It is hard to see the 30-year-old Belgium international remain part of Jurgen Klopp’s team at Anfield next season, and bookmakers are already getting ready for the summer transfer window.

According to Betfair, Napoli are the favourites to sign Mignolet in the summer transfer window with odds of 7/2 in their favour.

Simon Mignolet of Liverpool instructs his team during the Premier League match between AFC Bournemouth and Liverpool at Vitality Stadium on December 17, 2017 in Bournemouth, England.

Celtic’s odds of landing the Belgian are 18/1, while Wolverhampton Wanderers and Stoke City’s chances of signing him are rated at 20/1.

Surprisingly, Newcastle are also in the mix for Mignolet’s signature, according to odds on Betfair.

The Magpies, who are struggling for survival in the Premier League, are 25/1 to secure the services of the former Sint-Truiden star, who is on £55,000-per-week salary at Liverpool according to Spotrac.com.

It is quite a shock link given that Mignolet was playing for Newcastle’s bitter rivals Sunderland as recently as 2013, and the Magpies fans do not want him at St. James’ Park.
