Newcastle United’s search for a new manager has begun, having announced on Monday that Rafael Benitez is leaving the club this week.

The Magpies have been unable to reach an agreement with Benitez about a new contract, and the Spaniard will move on when his deal ends on Sunday.

Mike Ashley and co have enraged Newcastle fans by failing to keep Benitez, and he must now come up with a great replacement ahead of the new season.

Now, the Daily Star report that two former Premier League stars are interested in the job, with ex-Manchester United veteran Laurent Blanc and former Arsenal and Everton ace Mikel Arteta keen.

Blanc, 53, won 11 trophies as Paris Saint-Germain boss, including three league titles, but he has been out of work for three years now, with many overlooking the Frenchman.

At the other end of the spectrum is Arteta, who is yet to become a manager, but has been working as part of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff at Manchester City.

Newcastle fans have been reacting to the rumour, and some have admitted that they’d love to see Arteta in the job, believing that he would be a good choice, adding that City may send players on loan to Newcastle to aid his first season as a manager.

Some are a little split on Blanc though, feeling he’d either be an interesting yet unattainable candidate, or not quite as good as Benitez despite his title-winning exploits in France, as he also won Ligue 1 with Bordeaux.
