Newcastle are reportedly interested in signing Young Boys striker Yannick Toure.

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing 17-year-old striker Yannick Toure from Swiss giants Young Boys, but where does that leave one of their homegrown products?

Toure is yet to sign a contract with Young Boys and can sign a new deal elsewhere, if the buying club are willing to pay a compensation fee set by FIFA.

Born in Senegal, the Switzerland Under-17 international has scored six goals in seven games for Young Boys’ Under-21 side and his progress has alerted a number of clubs around Europe according to the Daily Mail – including Newcastle.

Newcastle currently have the likes of Aleksander Mitrovic, Dwight Gayle and Joselu vying for a place in Rafa Benitez’s one-man striker system, but Toure is far from Premier League football should he move to St. James’ Park.

However, his arrival could affect the future of loanee Adam Armstrong, who is struggling to get near the first team on Tyneside and has been loaned out by Benitez for the past two season.

The 20-year-old is currently on loan with Championship side Bolton Wanderers until the January transfer window, where he has managed just one goal in 17 second-tier outings.

His lack of goalscoring form is sure to concern Benitez, and the addition of teenager Toure could see Armstrong offloaded in the January transfer window on a permanent basis if the Toon land the Young Boys hotshot.

Failing to maximise his potential, Armstrong has not shown enough that would convince Benitez to hand him a run out in the Newcastle first team and with a player showing more promise in the pecking order – three years his junior – Benitez would be left with no option but to offload the pocket-sized speed machine.
