Newcastle United are considering a shock move to sign Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele with the Frenchman likely to leave Spurs – Alan Shearer once praised him, saying would be part of Tottenham’s midfield for years to come.
Ndombele, 25, joined Tottenham for a club-record fee in 2019 but has since managed just 91 appearances in all competitions. It saw him move out on loan in January, returning to Lyon. He was left out of the Korea tour this summer.
So, a move is expected and reports from France on Wednesday state that Newcastle are considering a shock move. The Toon are said to be in the market for a no.10, a right winger and a striker before the end of the transfer window.
Shearer was full of praise towards the end of the 2020-21 season. He says Ndombele was one of the Premier League’s most-improved after a tricky start – predicting he would be a member of Tottenham’s midfield for years to come.
“This season he’s definitely improved and is a much more confident player. What impresses me most is how he’s matured into his new role. He’s solid defensively, but is also good going forward. He can also pick out a pass.
“He’s certainly given a better account this season but if he can improve his consistency, he should be a vital member of that squad for years to come,” Shearer said on the Premier League’s YouTube channel in 2021.

Would Ndombele thrive at Newcastle? Well, he would certainly get more game time and probably break into the side’s starting line-up. He did so at Tottenham initially under Mauricio Pochettino and impressed, until the Argentine’s exit.
Newcastle do need a 10. He would form a partnership with another ex-Lyon star in Bruno Guimaraes – although the two never crossed paths. Indeed, Bruno was largely his replacement at Lyon. But there is potential to shine on Tyneside.
