Newcastle are interested in Demarai Gray as they consider launching a surprise move to sign the Everton winger this summer.

Newcastle saw their relegation fears drift away in 2022 as they enjoyed a stunning second half of the season.

Eddie Howe helped drag Newcastle well clear of the drop zone and almost secured a top-half finish.

Fans are now looking forward to an exciting summer transfer window thanks to the investment from PIF.

Big names are being linked with Newcastle but they could instead move to land Gray from Everton.

Newcastle are interested in Demarai Gray

That’s no slight on Gray, but Newcastle have been linked with more illustrious names than the Toffees wide man.

The Daily Mail do though report that Newcastle have internally discussed making a move to sign Gray this summer.

Gray is a familiar name to Newcastle fans as Rafael Benitez wanted to sign him back in 2017.

Benitez then signed Gray for Everton last summer and admitted that he wanted him at Newcastle.

Benitez didn’t get all that much time with Gray in the end though as Everton sacked him in January.

Gray started the season brilliantly and was branded ‘electric’ by pundit Garth Crooks.

Gray, who cost Everton just £1.7million from Bayer Leverkusen las summer, finished the campaign with five goals and four assists.

The 25-year-old wide man does need to settle down after that brief spell in Germany and leaving Everton after just a year wouldn’t be ideal.

Newcastle do though have other wide men on their radar with Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby, Leeds United’s Jack Harrison and Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson wanted.

Gray wouldn’t exactly set pulses racing at Newcastle after a mixed campaign at Everton but he could be a budget option if the Magpies want to spend big in other areas.
