Newcastle United want Anthony Gordon but don’t think there is a way that Everton will let him make the move to Tyneside.

It’s easy to forget that Gordon was in a much different position this time last year.

A disappointing loan spell at Preston North End had finished with the winger unable to really make a huge impact in a struggling team.

Gordon headed back to Everton with his first-team aspirations in the balance, but he ended up enjoying a great season.

The 21-year-old was one of Everton’s few shining lights in a dismal season, registering four goals and two assists in 35 games.

Gordon captured the hearts of Everton fans with his displays, full of drive, passion and imagination in the final third.

Everton fans, much like many fanbases around the world, love when a homegrown star emerges through the ranks.

Gordon fits that bill but Everton are now having to fend off major interest in his signature.

Tottenham wanted Gordon to be part of a deal involving Richarlison but Everton said no, though Tottenham are still keen on a cash deal.

It’s now Newcastle being linked with a move for Gordon, with the Daily Mail claiming that the Magpies are keen on signing the winger.

However, it’s also stated that Newcastle believe there is just no chance Gordon will be making the move to St James’ Park.

Everton are adamant that they won’t be selling Gordon this summer having already sold one vital first-team player in Richarlison.

Add in that Gordon’s popularity as a homegrown player is high and Everton don’t want to send out the wrong message – even if their financial problems are well-documented.

Newcastle really want a winger but with Moussa Diaby incredibly expensive and Everton standing firm on Gordon, the Magpies may need to look elsewhere.
