The Magpies ace ended a 17-week goalscoring drought in the Premier League Cup semi-final against Leeds in midweek.

Newcastle United academy striker Elias Sorensen has spoken of his delight at finally scoring his first goal since his ill-fated loan spell at Blackpool.

The Magpies ace had scored 19 goals for the Premier League club’s Under-23s side before the turn of the new year (Chronicle Live), which helped him secure a stint at Bloomfield Road.

During two months at the League One club, however, Sorensen played just 32 minutes of first-team football and was not even in the matchday squads in the latter stages (Transfemarkt).

Eventually the 19-year-old was recalled by Newcastle in March along with two other talented youngsters, Jamie Sterry and Cal Roberts.

Sorensen’s confidence took a huge blow, admitting to the Shields Gazette earlier in April that he was “devastated” with how the Blackpool spell went.

Luckily, Tuesday saw Sorensen end a 17-week goal drought when he netted in the Under-23s 3-0 win over a strong Leeds United reserve outfit in the Premier League Cup semi-final, and he admitted afterwards that he was down with himself for a while prior to the goal.

“I was buzzing to see the ball hit the net,” the Dane told the official Newcastle website. “I’ve not scored for a few games and I’ve been a bit down with myself. To finally score after so long was a great feeling.

“It’s a big weight off my shoulders as I felt I only needed to score one goal to regain the form I had before I went out on loan. I’m delighted and, hopefully, I can kick on from here.”

Newcastle will take on either Everton or Swansea City – who contest their Premier League Cup semi-final on 4 May – for the right to face the Magpies in the final.
