Newcastle United are on the verge of en emotional deal for Brighton and Hove Albion defender Dan Burn after agreeing a £13million deal.

That’s according to Sky Sports, who claim that a fee has now been agreed for Burn to make the move to St James’ Park.

It’s claimed that Burn is set to travel up to the North East and undergo a medical ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

Newcastle made two bids before this one, with Brighton fending them off.

It’s now a case of third time lucky for Newcastle with Burn now believed to be on his way to Tyneside for a late move.

Eddie Howe has been desperate to secure a left-footed centre back this month and have missed out on a number of targets.

The likes of Sven Botman, Benoit Badiashile and Nico Schlotterbeck have all been linked as targets to fill that role.

Instead, it’s a Premier League-ready defender heading to Newcastle with Burn set to become Howe’s left-sided centre back.

Burn is a huge presence at 6ft 7in tall, but he has also played as a left back at Brighton and is capable on the ball.

That’s what Howe has been seeking, even if Newcastle fans maybe didn’t dream of signing Burn when their big takeover went through in November.

This is an incredibly emotional move for Burn, who was born in Blyth and grew up supporting Newcastle.

The 29-year-old started his career with Newcastle but was heartbroken at the age of just 11 when the Magpies released him.

This has been a long journey back to Newcastle for Burn, who went through non-league with Blyth Spartans and Darlington.

Now joining his boyhood club as they start their new project, this is a huge move for Burn and one that he is understandably jumping at ahead of the deadline.
