For far too long, Newcastle United fans have been subjected to boring football.

Throughout the Mike Ashley era, the main complaints from United fans weren’t about a lack of success or a lack of big-money signings, their main issue was the turgid football on display on a weekly basis.

Steve Bruce had the Magpies playing a dire brand of football, and while Rafa Benitez was beloved on Tyneside, it would be remiss to claim his Newcastle team were eyecatching in the slightest.

However, things have changed lately at St James’ Park.

Under Eddie Howe, this team have rediscovered an element of freedom, and at times, they’ve been an absolute joy to watch – perhaps most notably in their 2-0 win against Arsenal in May where they played the Gunners off the park.

Indeed, this Newcastle side can make for brilliant viewing, and things could be about to get a whole lot more entertaining in the north east.

According to The Athletic, Newcastle are now keen on Club Brugge winger Noa Lang, and if he’s paired with Allan Saint-Maximin on the wings, Newcastle could be one of the most entertaining attacking outfits in Europe.

We all know what Saint-Maximin is about, speed, tricks, direct dribbling and an incredibly powerful right foot, and Lang is cut from a similar cloth.

Compared to Neymar in the past, Lang is a bag of trick in his own right, his low centre of gravity allows him to effortlessly flow through defences, and while he’s not quite as speedy as Saint-Maximin, his quick feet are hypnotic enough to bamboozle any defence.

Of course, whether or not having two players like this in the same team is a good idea is up for debate. Both wingers have been accused of being too greedy, while their defensive output isn’t exactly the best, but if Newcastle want to treat their adoring fans to a spectacle, putting Lang and Saint-Maximin in the same team is certainly one way to do it.
