Newcastle United fans aren’t thrilled about the idea of signing Nicolas Pepe.

Arsenal smashed their club record to sign the Ivory Coast international in a £72 million deal two years ago.

But Pepe hasn’t proven worth the money for the Gunners.

According to Jeunes Footeux, the 26-year-old winger, who has 15 goals and eight assists in 67 Premier League games, is on Newcastle’s radar.

When Saudi PIF completed their takeover at St James’s Park, the Magpies’ fanbase were dreaming of major high-profile signings.

But some supporters of the Tyneside club aren’t entirely convinced by the Arsenal attacker.

Here’s how they reacted:

Why not?

If the money is right, why not?

Pepe’s statistics aren’t great for a £72 million player, but for, say, £25 million, 15 goals in two-and-a-bit years really isn’t a bad return.

For instance, Allan Saint-Maximin has eight goals and 11 assists in only three less Premier League games than Pepe.

They’re both similar players in the sense of being electric wingers whose end product isn’t always there.

But there’s no doubt that the Arsenal man – who earns £560,000 per month – has a heap of potential and under the right manager, he could be truly awesome in English football yet.

Nobody is saying Eddie Howe is the man to unlock all of the former Lille star’s potential.

But man-management is one of Howe’s strong suits and who knows, a coach like this could be exactly what Pepe needs.
