Newcastle United are being linked with a former Liverpool striker.
According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle United are keen on Bournemouth hitman Dominic Solanke.
Solanke left Liverpool to join the now-Championship club a few years ago.
And The Mail reported on New Year’s Eve that the Magpies may want him at St James’s Park.
Despite commanding a £20 million fee, the former Chelsea youth sort of flopped at Liverpool.
Two years on the Reds’ books spawned only one Premier League goal in 21 top-flight appearances.
Nevertheless, Jurgen Klopp was an admirer and here’s what he told the club’s official website in 2017.
“It’s exciting, absolutely exciting. I’m really happy to have him around. He’s a wonderful kid, that’s how it is. You can see this, he’s full of joy and quality, it was nice to see.”
Can Newcastle sign him?
Well, with Saudi Public Investment Fund boasting a fortune of £300 billion, Newcastle can sign a lot of players.
Despite their riches, howver, the Tyneside outfit may find it potentially difficult to poach Solanke.
That’s because with 18 Championship goals, he is spearheading the Cherries’ promotion bid to the Premier League.
But as we know, money talks – particularly in football – and if Newcastle want the one-time Liverpool man enough, Eddie Howe – who signed him in 2019 – will get him.
